Experiment 10 - Gamma

[ The elevators do not take you up to your living area. Rather, they take you DOWN, to a small room with three white walls, and one that is a thick, translucent plastic. There appears to be a chute of some sort behind the plastic wall. ]

Now, in order to determine how well you know each other, we're going to see which teams are the most popular. The rules are simple:

* At the end of the test, each team will suffer an attack. Each attack will kill about half of everyone present.
* You may choose one team (other than your own) to defend from this attack. A team that is defended will not be harmed.
* If you wish to defend yourself instead of another team, you must choose a team to attack.
* You may not refuse to choose.

It's possible, but the odds are against it. Without a way to communicate, there's no way to know.

[ Runs a hand through his hair, thinking. ]

Do you have a preference, then?

I understand. Is she...?

[ Y'know, FEELINGS? ]

... I don't know. I'm trying to be logical about it, but I don't— I-I can't predict what the other teams might do.

... if I had to decide, I would pick the team that has people that wouldn't be able to cope with dying very well.

[bitofadick]

And who do you think that is?

I like her.

[universalboy]

[ Smiles brightly! ]

I'm happy for you! I did some of those skits with her, she was a lot of fun.

[universalboy]

Delta. Though I don't assume anyone to take death well.

[bitofadick]

[nods and rubs at his temple]

... I don't know any of them very well. But they seem nice.

I mean, I should try and be more rational and figure out who we should vote for strategically.

[universalboy]

Maybe I'm being selfish, since I'm friends with two of the people on it. But the new people - the rich guys - they... I don't know how they'll handle the reality of the situation if they're killed shortly after arriving.

[bitofadick]

... Do you think anyone else would pick them?

[universalboy]

I'm not blaming you for that at all. I would vote for the team the people I loved were on immediately... but I think in this situation, I want to vote for Delta. I don't think the new people will be able to handle dying very well.

Not that I expect anyone to handle it well.

[bitofadick]

It's probably okay to be a little selfish about this stuff. I mean, it's... ultimately, you're protecting someone. I don't think there's a wrong choice. Not really.

I don't think so, either. But my vote is for Delta, and Wally said he wants to vote for Iota for Cassie's sake.

We're deciding which team to protect from an attack.

More murder tests.

We're picking which team we want to keep from being killed. So that's fun.

Wally said Iota, I say Delta, Dick is still deciding. It's just a matter of thinking about it logically, so one team doesn't get a bunch of votes.
