My parents hid me away. Fortunately for me, it was a good hiding place. The Alliance ground-team that were sent to reclaim Mindoir from the Batarians found me.

Does this sort of thing happen often? One species conquers a world another was occupying and kills the civilians living there?

No, it doesn't. Other than the Batarians stirring up trouble every now and again, it was pretty peaceful. Until the Reaper attack.

The Reapers?

Sentient machines. Harvested advanced life every 50,000 years.

Where did they come from?

No one knows. Deep space is the best answer I can give.

But someone had to have built them if they're machines?

Before humans there were the Protheans, before the Protheans there was the Inusannaon... no one knows who existed before them.

Yeah... no one even knows how long they've existed. Millions of years is the best guess.

A long time. And they aren't inclined to tell you why they hang around or not?

They're not very talkative. Usually just go on about being 'the harbinger of your destruction'.

How unoriginal.

I know.

How is it going? Fighting them?

[cloak_and_sniper]

I killed them. I think. It's hard to be sure. There was an explosion and then I woke up, naked, in our dorm.

I see. Congratulations.

How bad were the casualties on your side?

[cloak_and_sniper]

Tens of millions in the first few days... I stopped listening to the numbers after that.

That quickly or just aiming for populous planets.

They aimed for the homeworlds first. Earth, Palaven, Thessia... Once they'd finished there, they would have moves on to the colonies.

[tries to hide a wince] That would do it.

Were some planets able to evacuate?

[cloak_and_sniper]

Too many people, nowhere to go. The Citadel was heaving with refugees... they started having to turn people away for lack of food and medication.

[prideofabh]

[nods] I've had to handle an evacuation before, and that was with ships that could support long-term habitation. Even then, it took weeks to move everyone who wished to leave.
