I did until I was sixteen. Batarians attacked my home-planet, killed my parents. Was rescued by the Alliance navy.

Humanoid, four eyes. Didn't like that we'd started colonizing worlds they considered theirs.

My parents hid me away. Fortunately for me, it was a good hiding place. The Alliance ground-team that were sent to reclaim Mindoir from the Batarians found me.

Does this sort of thing happen often? One species conquers a world another was occupying and kills the civilians living there?

No, it doesn't. Other than the Batarians stirring up trouble every now and again, it was pretty peaceful. Until the Reaper attack.
